Less than two weeks ago we were so excited to have gained planning permission to expand our holiday accommodation provision on our farm.
We are delighted to be able to install a new shepherds hut, but with a difference. The shepherds hut will be constructed from reclaimed materials such as oak floorboarding and wool insulation, it will look like it's always been here and inside will have a magical rustic charm of a retreat, somewhere you can step back in time and really relax.
For us a shepherds hut was the obvious choice for the farm. The two pods are timber structures which sit where a woodland stood, they felt right in terms of design for that location. The shepherds hut will be on the edge of a field overlooking miles and miles of sheep grazing, with sunsets in abundance, a real romantic retreat of yesteryear.
We are so lucky to be able to have our input into every detail of the shepherds hut - each light fitting, cupboard and shelf, tap and step will have been thought about and designed to our specification..... real bespoke craftsmanship. It will be constructed a few miles away, which will be so good for popping in and seeing the project evolve and of course keeping everyone updated on social media!
The shepherds hut is really special to us, we have old shepherds huts on the farm that were used (in living memory) by shepherds to store their hay for the winter. Nearby farms also have ruins of small buildings where shepherds would go and tend to their flock in poor weather, or in other times when there were rustlers/ border reivers coming to steal their prized possessions. So for us installing a locally crafted shepherds hut from reclaimed materials really does come full circle, our guests can keep an eye on those prized possessions of ours....although I do hope that there will be no border reivers coming over the horizon to take those fluffy balls of wool!!
We want you to come to us and ponder over the unspoilt and unchanged landscape, the romance of snuggling down with a warm drink under big blankets with magical sunsets to the sound of sheep grazing. However we don't want you to feel you are 'roughing it', it will definitely be full of the home comfort and luxury that you'd expect from us! The use of reclaimed materials is very special, we cannot wait to see where materials have been and what their past use is, and we will be sure to let our guests know too.
Keep an eye on our social media pages for updates on our build progress, we will be regularly posting.
