Robson Green's Weekend Escape 2024 - Sycamore Cottage & Glamping, Northumberland
Imagine our absolute delight when we were contacted by the producers of Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes. Of course this was an opportunity that we would grasp with both hands! Robson is a character that we have all grown up with, from his early days in Casualty as Jimmy the porter right through his pop star status, fishing trips his celebrity CV is vast….what an absolute north east gem.
We got into discussions about the practicalities of how filming works and discovered local celeb Chef Chris Baber would be joining Robson on his stay, it all sounded ideal. Due diligence checks were done, the north east lads would love a farm tour and Chris would be cooking dinner with local produce for his former Soldier Soldier pal…. fabulous, exactly underpins our ethos – supporting local and seasonal.
We aren't here....... help!!!
Then the news came….the date that Robson and Chris would film was when we were due to be in Italy on a holiday to celebrate our 20 years of being married. How on earth could we make this work??
Never fear – 17 year old Charlotte stepped right in with both feet ‘I’ll do it Mam’…. Ok, so this is a national TV programme celebrating great weekend stays and showcasing different things to do in the North East, including touring OUR FARM, and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and you’ll do it… our 17 year old, you will stay home, run the farm (only hundreds of sheep and cows, the glamping site and manage to survive yourself) and you will do it…..of course you will!
And you know what, she did!
The stay
We met the team in the evening, and watched Chris cook the most delicious local produce summer meal then we had a flight to catch so the rest was out of our hands!
Both Chris and Robson’s wife sent lovely words over about their time, Chris said that ‘We had the most amazing stay. The tour was incredible and Charlotte was amazing’ with Robson’s wife confirming what so many guests say that the sleep quality is so good and that ‘the shower is fantastic’.
On our return and after establishing that everything was fine I asked Charlotte how it went and what she said, typical teen attitude kicked in ‘you will have to wait to see on TV’….so that’s it, I’ve no idea what was said, how it went or even what was filmed, I will see it for the first time on the BBC when it is aired…we cannot wait!
